Smash Brawl, hurray!
After playing Brawl briefly for about 5 hours, I can say that it’s pretty damn fun. A lot of the changes to the game makes sense. For example, in Melee, an air dodge causes a character to pause briefly in mid-air, avoiding all attacks. People may even control the direction of that dodge. Now in Brawl, an air dodge causes a dodge animation while the characters maintains their previous momentum.
Gameplay mechanics aside, I’ve noticed a lot of small improvements. The only thing I wonder about is if there is enough technical depth for me now that they’ve taken away many of the hard to master technical moves. Those are the things that will keep me playing for the long term. Obviously, I won’t ponder too much about that, I’ll just be enjoying the game for now.
